BCA Clinic of the Year Award

Chiropractic Clinic British Chiropractic Association Clinic of the Year

We were informed in October 2018 that our Chiropractic clinic has been awarded the British Chiropractic Association's (BCA) clinic of the year award. The BCA Clinic of the Year Award recognises a clinic who has made an impact in their local community this year and promoted the chiropractic profession. I will collect this award on behalf of the clinic at the Royal College of Chiropractors AGM in London at the end of January 2019.

As a clinic we have implemented significant change and progress, this has resulted in an outstanding clinic which is unique in set up, location and facility.

Our new purpose-built clinic premises (replaced an upstairs premise in a town centre) has allowed us to have the opportunity to put together the best possible environment we can for patients. This included child friendly furniture and mirrors positioned on the walls in the treatment room so that parents can still see their children whilst laying on the bench. Reception chairs specifically picked so that mums can breast feed comfortably with wall mounted toys in the reception area. All car parking spaces are large enough so that doors can be opened on each side allowing parents to access car seats more comfortably and safely, a speed restriction of 5mph is implemented on the access to the clinic and we are on a bus route from both nearby towns. The outside space of the clinic was designed with reference to all patient groups including being dementia friendly (outside seating, safe access to outside space, colour contrasting walkways) and full disabled access to and throughout the whole building.

Since opening our new clinic in November 2016 we are now well known to the community; in particular I am privileged to liaise with many healthcare professionals in supporting several additional needs patients (adult and children), this includes school visits with physios and SENCO’s and phone and letter communications to paediatricians.

Clinic was the founder of our parenting group, this aims to support parents in the local community. This is a not for profit group and all activities are directly funded by clinic or run at cost. The majority of activities are held at our clinic and support given by our staff.

Recent events include pelvic girdle pain workshops run at a local community room, picnic in the park excursions, baby massage courses, baby friendly cinema screenings at the local cinema, health visitor drop in sessions, midwife led group run voluntarily by a local midwife, baby group session run by a speech and language therapist, sessions regarding weaning with support from health visitors, postnatal depression workshop by a mental health professional and visits from a baby wearing advisor. Additionally, Waitrose in Uttoxeter have supported clinic in setting up a peer support parent group in their community room.

Online we have a closed Facebook parenting page with over 300 members, on this group we have a wide variety of both healthcare and education professionals who are able to support the parents on the group, all time to this group is voluntary.

Our clinic has supported a junior sports team annually for a number of years, this year clinic has been a proud sponsor and associated healthcare professional of Uttoxeter Juniors at the Cricket Club. It has been a fantastic initiative to the clinic with referrals from the club, parents, and we now see many of the senior players and their families too.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our clinic so far, we will endevour to keep up the good work and continue to strive for clinical excellence in every capacity.
